My 5 Favorite Video Games For The Nintendo GameCube

Man, remember the GameCube? What a solid little system. When everyone else was buying Xbox 360s and PS3s, all my college roommate and I had and could afford was our little purple GameCube. I’ll tell you what though, it served us well while saving up for the newest generation of consoles.

Here are my 5 favorite games for the GameCube.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

original

“Simply a stunning, magical game.” – Eurogamer

“The navigation, the combat, the dungeons, the characters, and the peril you must face as that young elf boy in green are all fantastic.” – DarkStation

“Do not let the visual style put you off, you’ll soon warm to it like everybody I’ve ever seen who’s taken one look at the game. However more importantly the gameplay is the definition of perfection.” – Total Video Games

Metroid Prime

“It oozes with so much addictiveness that the storyline plays second fiddle and reminds you of a time when gameplay was an integral part of gaming. Put simply, this is one of the best games I have played in a long, long time.” – Into Liquid Sky

“The sense of being Samus is really found in the details. With just the right flash of light or glare against the visor, a thin, hazy reflection of Samus can be seen against the inner glass. It’s quite cool… A fantastic, top-notch effort.” – Game Revolution

“The best game to hit any system in the past few years. No game has captivated me more or been more fun than Metroid Prime in a very long time.” – Gaming Age

Soul Calibur II

“For the vast majority of the gaming world, this is quite easily the best 3D beat ’em up ever made.” – Eurogamer

“The absolute best fighting game available on the GameCube.” – NintendoWorldReport

“A noticeable step forward in the evolution of the genre. “Virtua Fighter 4″ might hold the top spot among hand-to-hand fighters, but when it comes to weapons-based combat, Soul Calibur II is the undisputed champion.” – Yahoo!

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

“From cover to cover this game was full of originality.” – GamePen

“It’s the best game on the GameCube and the best game I’ve played in a very long time.” – Gaming Age

“What Eternal Darkness might lack in top-notch graphics it more than makes up for with fantastic gameplay and spine-chilling atmosphere.” – XenGamers

Mario Kart: Double Dash

SI_GCN_MarioKartDoubleDash

“Yeah, we’ll say it: Mario Kart: Double Dash is the most fun you’ll have with a game this year. And probably next year. And maybe even the year after that.” – GMR Magazine

“There are dozens of dazzling tracks, and the play gets fast, manic and difficult, but somehow always retains a magically fun ingredient.” – Stuff

“The gameplay remains fast and furious, and the simple controls do a masterful job of literally keeping you on track. The interplay between the characters in two-player mode is particularly impressive.” – GamePro
